The town of Siracusa is almost 2,700 years old. It was originally founded by Greek colonists before becoming part of the Roman Empire and was once one of the most important cities in the Mediterranean. The pride of this marvellous and unique city is the Teatro Greco – the ancient Greek amphitheatre carved into the volcanic rock, where still today Greek tragedies are performed in their original language. 

The Mercure Hotel is located in the northern part of the city centre, near the famed Archaeological zone. Our address is Viale Teracati 20. We’re about a leisurely half-hour stroll from Siracusa Train Station and buses pass regularly up Corso Gelone, the city’s main street (see the map below). Tickets can be bought from the bar outside the train station.

How to arrive by car

From the north, exit the SS114 at Siracusa Nord and follow signs for the city centre (“Centro”). Follow Via Scala Greca and turn left onto Viale Teracati.

From the south, exit the SS115 and again, follow signs for the city centre. Come off Via Elorina at Via Gaetano Columba and follow this road to the junction with Viale Ermocrate. Take a left here then immediate right onto Via Paolo Orsi. Follow Via Paolo Orsi to the end where the road bends to the left and becomes Via Teracati.
