Location
If you’ve always dreamed of visiting a place like Sicily, there could not be a better time to get up and go. This quaint and unique Mediterranean island is unlike any other place in the world but is changing rapidly. It is no longer an undiscovered gem, a diamond on the sole of the Italian boot; it is quickly becoming one of Italy’s premier holiday destinations.
The town of Siracusa is almost 2,700 years old. It was originally founded by Greek colonists before becoming part of the Roman Empire and was once one of the most important cities in the Mediterranean. The pride of this marvellous and unique city is the Teatro Greco – the ancient Greek amphitheatre carved into the volcanic rock, where still today Greek tragedies are performed in their original language.
The Mercure Hotel is located in the northern part of the city centre, near the famed Archaeological zone. Our address is Viale Teracati 20. We’re about a leisurely half-hour stroll from Siracusa Train Station and buses pass regularly up Corso Gelone, the city’s main street (see the map below). Tickets can be bought from the bar outside the train station.
